Treasure Chest

Built from a single piece of Red Elm this chest features curved dovetails.  I designed and crafted this peice in my first year at The college of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program.  The sides are coopered to achieve the curve & are also tapered slightly.  It is bigger then it looks being 30" wide, 17" deep & 18" tall.  The top is hand carved from a solid piece, the stand is also hand carved and features a brass framed piece of abalone shell harvested locally from the northern Californian coast.  The bottom of the chest is Cedar of Lebanon which provides a wonderful smell everytime you open the chest.

I built this Chest for my father in appreciation of the gifts he gave me.
